January 2, 2013

Margaret Ellis Inc. has been sold to employee Mclaine Richardson.

Terms of the deal, which was finalized Dec. 31, 2012, were not disclosed.

The 30-year-old artisan jewelry company, long owned by Margaret Ellis and her husband/business partner Fred Ellis, is located at Cummins Station. Its creations also are sold at Nina Kuzina Fine Art Gallery located in Belle Meade.

Though Margaret Ellis (on left in photo) has retired, she will continue to serve as a mentor and advisor to Mclaine (on right).

“I grew up with my mother wearing Margaret Ellis jewelry so Iʼve been familiar with the brand for as long as I can remember,” Mclaine said in a release. “Margaret has trusted me with this amazing opportunity and Iʼm honored and excited to carry her name.

Long-term employees and master metalsmiths Edward Tomlin and Anjy Smith will continue to work with Mclaine.
